Weiqiang Zhang received his bachelor’s degree in accounting at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, and completed a double master's program in international business at Southeast University and Monash University. He worked as a research assistant at the Green Development Research Center of Shanxi University in China, and mainly focused on the fields of energy economics and climate policy. His current research interests are institutions and economic development. He examines the short-term and long-term impacts of cultural, political, fertility related, religious, and tax institutions on China's economic development. He is also interested in topics of inequality in the informal labor market.
