Currently Guzel Yusupova is Visiting Humboldt Fellow at Osteuropa Institut, Free University Berlin where she undertakes research on the intersection of ethnicity, class and mobility in Russia in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and also develops the project on the nature-driven identities in Russia focusing on the Volga river.
Before she was a Visiting Professor at EURUS Carleton University, Canada. From November 2020 and until April 2022 she was a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) & Senior Researcher at North-West Institute of Management, Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. Before she was COFUND Research Fellow at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University, UK and Research Associate at School of Social Sciences at Loughborough University, UK. Prior to that she was a postdoctoral fellow on projects in Sweden (REMESO, Linkoping University) and Austria (IWM). Her broader research interests include nationalism studies, sociology of ethnic and racial diversity, migration and Islam, memory politics and research methodology with application to the region of post-Soviet Eurasia. She has taught undergraduate and MA-level courses on nationalism, ethnopolitics, memory politics and political sociology.  Her papers have been published in journals such as Europe-Asia Studies, Social Science Quarterly, Ethnicities, Nations and Nationalism, Post-Soviet Affairs and others.
