This year marks the 200th anniversary of writer Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky (1821-1881) in the Russian-speaking world and beyond. For this occasion, the Media Library of the Institute for Eastern European Studies has assembled an extensive collection of film adaptations of his literary works. These diverse cinematic interpretations of Dostoevsky's literary works, which were at the same time created in different linguistic, cultural, and political contexts, take up the problematics following novel adaptations in the cinematic medium, as well as questions about the fundamental tension between literature and film.
