From November 09 to 12, as part of the seminar Manipulated Environments. Ecocide and Ecocriticism in Literature and Film under the direction of Prof. Susanne Strätling, an excursion to the Festival of Eastern European Film in Cottbus took place.
For four days we attended daily screenings and talks with filmmakers from Eastern Europe and the Caucasus. The focus of the excursion was on the new festival section EcoEast, curated by Irine Beridze and Susanne Strätling. It was dedicated to Georgian film from an ecological point of view. Featuring nine films spanning 90 years of Georgian film history, the festival's EcoEast section offered insights into the Georgian (film) landscape, ranging from the mythical saga landscape of Colchis to contemporary bitcoin mining in the Caucasus.
Film reviews of the screened films, written by the seminar participants, will appear on novinki.de.
