Work-Related and Commuting Accidents

Procedure After Work-Related and Commuting Accidents

Injured persons requiring medical attention must be referred to an authorized accident medical specialist (D-Arzt). D-Ärzte are specialists in orthopedics and trauma surgery, certified by the state associations of the statutory accident insurance, and possess specialized knowledge and experience in the field of accident medicine. They practice in clinics or emergency departments of hospitals.
For isolated eye, ear-nose-throat (ENT), or dental injuries, the corresponding specialist must be consulted.

Civil servants are not subject to the D-Arzt procedure and have free choice of physician after a work-related or commuting accident.

After every work-related or commuting accident, the supervisor must be informed. In the case of student accidents, the institute or department administration must be notified.

If initial medical assistance was provided by the fire department, the Occupational Safety Office requests brief notification

Accident Report

Employees, Trainees, Students

Contrary to the instructions on the forms, an accident report must always be completed if a work-related or commuting accident results in medical treatment and thus incurs costs.

The supervisor is responsible for preparing and signing the accident report within three daysof becoming aware of the accident. For students, the respective institute or department administration must sign the report

The fully completed and signed accident report must be sealed and forwarded to the Occupational Safety Office (DAS).

For injuries not requiring medical attention, the entry in the logbook (included with every first-aid kit) serves as proof for insurance purposes.

At OEI, the logbook (Meldeblock) can be found in the office of Olesya Chebanenko (room 115b).

If medical treatment is sought later, an accident report must still be submitted.

Civil Servants

If a work-related or commuting accident results in bodily injury, the civil servant or their supervisor must immediately complete an accident report. This must then be sealed and forwarded to the Human Resources Department.
